Summertown Wine Bar is open!
Today on the blog, Graeme from Summertown Wine Bar talks about a successful first month in business and the exciting plans for the year ahead. >>
Owners Graeme Woodward, Michael Jelley and Emily Robotham are absolutely delighted to have opened the Summertown Wine Bar at 267 Banbury Road. The trio have known each other for nearly 7 years and have built on their extensive experience within the wine, drinks and hospitality industry throughout Oxfordshire and the success of local wine merchant Grape Minds (Oxford Business Awards Retailer of the Year 2022) to bring this exciting project to fruition. The result is a luxurious, airy and comfortable space in the heart of Summertown, just 2 miles from the centre of Oxford. The trio have worked alongside Noel White, creative designer of Aporia Design to create a welcoming, high end venue in north Oxford’s bustling centre.
Graeme says: “Over a month open now, we have settled in well and have been very grateful for the support of the local North Oxford community. Over the next 6 weeks we continue to improve the decor week by week with sound absorption and soft furnishings.”
“We believe there was a gap in the local market for a high quality wine bar with the quality of the wine and other drinks as its number one driver. Summertown is spoilt with some amazing independent venues, El Rincon, Pompette, Joes, Columbia Coffee but to name a few and we think we can complement those nicely.”
With space for 100 guests, a separate tasting room (available for private bookings) and stage for live music, the venue is set up to be the go-to place for excellent drinks in relaxing surroundings in Oxford. Summertown Wine Bar has more than 30 wines available by the glass, over 300 wines by the bottle, not to mention beers, coffees, cocktails and a small food offering to complement the drinks.
“The space is large and currently looks a little bare. Our builders and designers did a brilliant job converting the space from a dilapidated old Laura Ashley shop into a wonderfully functional wine bar and we cannot wait to welcome them back in the next few weeks to pop in the final touches to the design with more artwork, velvet drapes, outdoor seating and much more!”
Graeme finishes by saying: “We are always on the lookout for more staff and have vacancies right now for a full time supervisor and part time casual staff.” So why not get in touch today if working in a high quality wine bar tickles your tastebuds.
Open from 12-11 Weds, Thurs, 12-12 Fri, Sat and 12-10 Sun, with live music almost every Sunday between 7 and 9. Those wishing to pay Summertown Wine Bar a visit should email or visit the website to book a table.
